Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been experiencing severe anxiety and sleep problems for the past two years. Although these issues have significantly improved due to the practice of pranayamas like sudarshan kriya, I still occasionally feel restless during sleep. Earlier this year, I consulted a psychiatrist who prescribed Escitalopram 10 mg and Amitriptyline 10 mg for three months to address my constant anxiety and restlessness.
While these medications reduced symptoms like constant anxiety and poor sleep, I still struggled with restlessness during sleep. My main concern is restlessness, and I would like to achieve more restful sleep. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I just reviewed your query and the attached files (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).
You mentioned that while your anxiety has improved, you are still experiencing some restlessness. You also noted that allopathic medicines provide relief, but Ayurvedic treatments have not been as effective. Since you have found relief from pranayama, I recommend visiting a nearby Ayurveda physician or panchakarma center to inquire about procedures, such as shirodhara or shiro basti. These treatments use herbal oils to alleviate anxiety and can be very beneficial for reducing restlessness during sleep. You may notice improvement after a few sessions.
In addition, consider consulting with a psychiatrist to enhance the overall results. Regular exercise, such as walking, jogging, cycling, or yoga, can also be beneficial. Engaging in hobbies like painting or dancing can help reduce anxiety as well. Make sure to maintain a diet of fresh, healthy foods, including fruits and a variety of berries, which can also support your well-being.
I hope this response addresses your concerns.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thanks for the reply.
Due to the pandemic, I do not think it will be possible for me to visit a nearby Ayurveda physician. While pranayamas have helped reduce some of my anxiety, I still experience severe restlessness in my body and legs at bedtime. This situation feels urgent to me, so I kindly request that you recommend some Ayurvedic medicines that I can order online. I would like to start using these remedies based on the medical history I have previously provided. My goal is to achieve more restful sleep with minimal restlessness. I appreciate any assistance you can offer.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your point. You can purchase Brahmi oil and use it for a gentle massage on your entire body daily, including your head and scalp. Massage in the morning, and after half an hour, take a bath with lukewarm water. You may also ask your family members to assist with the massage. Additionally, get Mahanarayan oil (which contains ashwagandha, bilva, and gokhru) and gently massage your legs, arms, and back in the evening. This oil helps relieve pain, and you should notice improvements after regular use for about a week.
Before bedtime, drink a glass of lukewarm milk mixed with half a teaspoon of almond powder, one-fourth teaspoon of green cardamom powder, and a bit of sugar. This mixture can help induce restful sleep. Take one tablet of Manasmithra vatakam (which contains bala, nagbala, and bilwa) twice a day with water after meals for two weeks.
Follow these recommendations, and you should start seeing positive results soon. You can find these Ayurvedic products online. After two weeks, consult a nearby Ayurveda physician or me for an evaluation of your progress and further management.
Thank you.
