What Ayurvedic medicine can help maintain a healthy life?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 25-year-old male and generally healthy. I understand that to maintain this health, I need to balance vata, pitta, and kapha (tridoshas) in my body. I have also studied many basic principles of Ayurveda over the last three years. Kindly suggest a powerful remedy that consistently balances the tridoshas and seven dhatus in my body. I am already taking Triphala, so please recommend something else that can help maintain my body's equilibrium.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to Indian traditional medicine (Ayurveda and Siddha), one can stay healthy by balancing the three life humors and seven body humors. Drugs that contain all six tastes can achieve this, such as amla (gooseberry) and triphala. However, in today's lifestyle, these two alone may not be sufficient, as you feel, and I agree with you.

Every six months, you should undergo body cleansing procedures, which include purgation, vomiting (vamanam), and sweating or sputum expectoration to balance vata, pitta, and kapha respectively. This can be effectively done under the supervision of Ayurveda or Siddha physicians. In Ayurveda, this is performed through Panchakarma therapy.

In Siddha, it is done in two phases:

  1. Phase one is to balance the three life forces by giving a single dose of Agathiyar Kuzhambu (a formula by sage Agastya). This induces vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, sputum expectoration, etc., according to the vitiated humor. This is a one-day therapy and should be done once every six months.
  2. The second phase is to balance the seven body humors, which is done through Kaya Kalpam drugs. Ancient yogis, especially Agastya Muni and Dhanvantari, used Kaya Kalpa therapy for longevity.

Currently available Kaya Kalpam drugs include Triphala tablets, Karisalai Karpam tablets, and Bhringaraj Karpam powder. You can take the first tablet for five months in the morning and evening, followed by a one-month break. Then, start the second or third tablet for the next five months, with another one-month gap. This should be continued for life. I have been using these two tablets. This Triphala Karpam tablet is enriched with additional herbs.

Once a week, use Pancha Karpa Kuliyal Choornam. This powder is boiled in milk and applied over the scalp in the morning. Wait for one hour before taking a bath. On that day, you will feel more refreshed and energetic instead of sleepy. Also, every six months, take Agathiyar Kuzhambu once to balance the three doshas. I find this regimen to be more cost-effective and beneficial than regular Panchakarma therapy.

Early-stage brown or white hair may also turn black. This is the Kaya Kalpa regimen for a healthy individual.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.
