Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had to undergo an abortion last month for twin discordance in my fourth month. It was performed as a normal delivery and again D and C were done within a week due to placenta remains. I had severe vomiting and my food intake was very poor during the pregnancy. Now, I am having issues with whole-body weakness and joint and bone pain. The back pain and neck pain are severe. When tested, vitamin D levels were at 11.2. Kindly suggest a remedy. I was asked to take bed rest and I am on calcium tablets. I was working night shifts but am currently on leave after the abortion.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query.

After an abortion weakness is mainly due to blood loss. So, if you are taking any iron supplementation then continue that. If not, then start taking iron supplements. You can start Ayurvedic medicines for iron supplementation.

Take a tablet Sapta Amrit Lauh (Yashtimadhu, Amla, Bibhitaki) one tablet two times a day with honey after food for one month. Along with this, take a diet rich in iron such as spinach, beans, broccoli, raisins, apricots, peas, iron-fortified cereals, pasta, etc., and fruits like apple, banana, peaches, and prunes.

As your vitamin D level is below normal and you are advised complete bed rest, it would be difficult for you to expose yourself to sunlight daily. Once you recover, expose yourself to early morning sun rays, because these sun rays lead to chemical reactions in the skin and help in the formation of vitamin D.

As you are taking calcium supplements, talk to your specialist regarding taking vitamin D tablets. You have to take these tablets one tablet per week for four consecutive weeks or as your doctor tells you. Along with that, start taking tablet Asthiposhak (Kukkutandatvak bhasma, Asthisamhruta, Arjuna) two tablets twice a day with water after food for four weeks.

Do not take both iron and calcium medicines together. Leave some time gap between them. Take foods rich in calcium and vitamin D such as some cereals, orange juice, soy products, cheese, egg yolk (only if you took it earlier), fatty fishes like salmon and tuna (only if you ate fish earlier), mushrooms, yogurt, milk, kale, broccoli, almonds, etc. Sleep adequately for at least for six to eight hours a day. If you are overweight, then after recovery, reduce your weight, because being overweight also causes a low level of vitamin D.

Take Lakshadi oil (Taila, Aranala, Laksha) and do a gentle massage of your whole body. After half an hour, take a bath with lukewarm water. Do it till the pain subsides. Try all these things regularly, and you will soon feel positive results. Do consult me after ten days regarding improvement. I hope you are satisfied with my answer.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
