Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

What are the most effective Ayurveda products that can help fight worm infestations beyond the gut? (medicines commonly state 'intestinal parasites' but are there any Ayurveda medicines that also enter the blood to help kill worms around the body, systemically). My second related question is whether these two formulas enter the bloodstream to kill parasites, Kottakal Krimighna Vatika and Vyas Kriminol syrup. Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. The four main categories of parasites that covers the intestinal worms are mentioned in ayurvedic textbooks as follows:

1) Malaja krimi - These are born of external excreta and born due to lack of cleanliness. Found mainly on hairs and skin.

2) Purishaja krimi -These are born of feces. Found mainly in the colon. These come under intestinal parasites.

3) Sleshma krimi - These are born of phlegm.

4) Shonitaja Krumi - These are born of blood.

I hope you understand the classification of parasites according to ayurveda. Now your first query is about whether ayurvedic medicine can enter the bloodstream to kill worms around the body systemically. The answer is that these krimighana (which kills parasites) ayurvedic products are mostly bitter in taste, hot in potency, have antimicrobial effects, liver stimulant, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, blood purifying properties, and can kill some of the parasites in the bloodstream. But a majority of ayurvedic products available are for intestinal worm infestation. However, if there are moderate to severe problems of parasites in the bloodstream, then I suggest management under the supervision of an ayurvedic doctor because it needs regular and long-term management. I also suggest Panchkarma therapy along with oral ayurvedic medicine. Panchkarma therapy is a group of procedures where external and internal cleaning of the body is done according to ayurvedic principles. Example includes purgation therapy, emesis therapy, etc.

Now your second query is about Kottakal Krimighana Vatika. This is mainly used in the management of intestinal worms. Sometimes it is also used in the management of hair fall and some other hair-related problems. Vyas Kriminol syrup is also used for intestinal worms infestation. Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the information. I would appreciate it greatly if you could be more specific and list those minority of products that work effectively systemically? You stated that such products are mainly helpful for intestinal worms, so a minority of products can help systemically. I do not have a clinic anywhere in my area providing Panchkarma therapy, but I am sure you are aware of the oral products that are considered helpful for worms in the blood. Please mention the names of formulas so that I feel sure there are helpful products available in ayurveda for systemic krimi that will encourage me to consult a good ayurveda specialist. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have mentioned some herbs below. I suggest taking dry powder of these herbs in equal quantity and mixing them all. I suggest taking one teaspoon of this powder once a day with lukewarm water after food for two weeks. If you cannot find all herbs, you can mix as many as you get. I have mentioned their common ayurvedic names, scientific names, and English names so that it would be easy for you to get these. If you are allergic to any herb, I suggest you not to add that.

1) Maricha (Piper nigrum seeds or black pepper fruit).

2) Kebuka (Costus speciosus roots or crepe ginger).

3) Moringa (Moringa oleifera).

4) Vidanga (Embelia Ribes or false black pepper).

5) Nirgundi (Vitex negundo or five-leaved chaste).

6) Apamarg (Achyranthes Aspera or prickly chaff flower).

7) Gokharu (Tribulus Terrestris or puncture vine).

I suggest trying this formulation for two weeks and consulting a nearby ayurveda physician or me after two weeks regarding improvement and for further management. If you feel any discomfort or disturbed bowel movements after taking this, you can decrease the dose upto half a teaspoon.

In case of any allergic reaction, I suggest stopping taking this and consulting a nearby physician for an allergic reaction.

I hope you get well soon.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. I tried to locate these herbal powders online (in the United Kingdom, where I live) but struggled. I found only Vidanga and Maricha, with only one company selling Gokshura. The others were only seen on Indian-based sites, some selling them in whole herb form. It has proved a difficulty. As I was searching, I stumbled across two products (in liquid and tablet form) that contain most of these herbs, plus a few others, by Krimighna Kashaya and Krumighna Vatika. If this is useful, then could you tell me the amount needed for a day for it to be effective systemically against worms. Please give the dosage for both forms (the tablets will be easier for me). Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I suggest you take this Krimighana kashaya because it contains all the herbs, and other herbs in this kashaya are also for a similar purpose. I also suggest taking this kashaya in 10 ml with some water after food once a day. If your body well tolerates this kashaya, you can take it continuously for one to two months. This kashaya should not be taken for a longer duration. This kashaya can cause gastritis in some people, so if you face the same problem, add some more water to your kashaya while taking it. Also, if you are taking any other medications, I suggest you have some time gap between this kashaya and other medications. The time gap should be around 30 minutes. As far as the tablet is concerned, it is more helpful in intestinal worms, so you only take kashaya.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. I have just ordered that kashaya from an online store that delivers internationally (3 x 200 mL bottles, a two-month supply in the 10 mL dosage you described). I just would like to know, what other ayurveda medicines would you recommend for taking alongside this? (meaning something for the digestion if necessary, or a blood detoxifier to reduce the die-off effect when the worms are killed). Maybe this kashaya helps in these areas, not requiring any other medicines. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. This kashaya is sufficient for you right now. There is no need for any other supplement. However, if you need an additional supplement for the digestive system, you can take Syrup Liv 52 (Chicory and Caper Bush) later on in the dose of one teaspoon two times a day with water after food for one to two months.

Thank you.
