Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 21 year old female. My height is 5 feet 7 inches, and I weigh 97 pounds. I want to gain weight. I also eat a lot. Please suggest some ways to improve. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Your weight should be proportional to your height. Your BMI (body mass index) is 16.26, which is calculated based on your height and weight. The normal BMI ranges from 18.5 to 24.9. So it is obvious that you need to gain weight. I suggest some weight-gaining techniques.
You can take ayurvedic granules. These granules contain weight-promoting substances like ashwagandha, shatavari, draksha, and others. Take one teaspoon of these granules with lukewarm milk twice daily, at least for four weeks. You can take these with lukewarm water too, but milk is a better option. It has weight-enhancing properties.
Do exercises that promote muscular bulk. As muscle bulk increases, it will contribute to weight gain. To learn these kinds of exercises, you can go to a nearby gym or consult a trainer.
Take foods that are healthy and promote weight gain too. Take carbohydrates, fats, and proteins proportionately. Drink two to three glasses of milk per day. You can take two to three eggs in boiled or half-boiled form if you already have them. You can take butter, whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables, and curd.
Start taking a half teaspoon of clarified butter once a day, preferably in the morning. You can take it with lukewarm water or with milk.
Take two to three cashews per day.
Avoid junk food. It will initially increase your weight, but in the long term, it is very harmful for your body.
Instead of taking three heavy meals, take five healthy meals per day.
Never skip breakfast.
Do not consume too many cold drinks.
Sleep adequately, at least for six to eight hours.
Do not take stress, as excessive stress will also hinder the proper digestion of food, indirectly hindering weight gain.
Try all these regularly, and you will see positive results within one month. You might need to perform thyroid function tests. But if it is normal, then it is fine, but if its value is in an abnormal range, then do take its medication regularly.
I hope this information will help you.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
