Can yoga help in improving sleep quality?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 37-year-old woman struggling to get sound sleep. I do not want to take any medications for sleep. Can yoga help improve my sleep? What types of yoga postures help achieve better sleep? I do not have any health issues, just mental stress. Is yoga beneficial for women, and can women my age practice it? What is the best time to practice yoga, and can you suggest some yoga postures for good sleep? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We feel glad that you reached out to us.

Intense yoga sessions can invigorate your body and stimulate alertness in the nervous system. Thus, it is natural to experience such post-effects following yoga or vigorous workout sessions. Consequently, it is crucial to allow your body to transition into a restful state and to establish limits for each session.

I suggest that you remember to unwind after each phase and conclude activities at least one hour before bedtime. Prioritizing relaxation for both body and mind is essential. Upon completing the sessions, practice deep, mindful breathing.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
