Are irregular periods normal even after using Kalarchikai?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a small cyst, and the doctor told me I have PCOD. I have been taking Kalarchikkai with pepper and honey, making small balls, for the past 28 days. The first time I got my period after 28 days, but the second time it came after 13 days. Is this normal? Can I continue the medicine for 48 days, or should I stop? Please suggest what to do.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Nowadays, period anomalies mostly occur due to PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease). PCOD may lead to menstrual cycle changes, a cyst in the ovary, trouble getting pregnant and other health issues.

As per your description, you are already taking Kalarchikai powder with honey. Kalarchikai helps to manage cyst issues naturally. Here is my treatment plan:

  1. You should continue this powder 0.11 ounces twice a day with honey after meals for 90 days.
  2. Along with this, you can also take Hyponidd charak (Yashad bhasma with purified asphaltum) two tablets twice a day after meals.
  3. Ashokaristam (Ashoka, Guda, Amla) one tablespoon twice a day with an equal amount of water after meals.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.

The Probable causes

PCOD is linked to changes in the level of certain female hormones like estrogen and progesterone.

Investigations to be done

Investigations to be done include USG abdomen (ultrasound), estrogen, LH (luteinizing hormone), FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone), lipid profile, and blood sugar.

Differential diagnosis

Differential diagnoses include hypothyroidism and inflammatory pelvic disorder.

Preventive measures

Avoid spicy and fried junk foods. Practice regular Kapalbhati and Mandukasana, along with pranayama techniques like Anulom Vilom, Nadi Shodhan, and Bhramari.
