Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My husband was suffering from obsessive compulsory disorder for two years. After that, he started meditation and came out of that, but now he has so much anxiety and mood fluctuations. He always tells me that he is having problems and behaves so sensitively. We consulted a psychiatrist, and the suggested tablets were Daxid 100 mg, Modin 5 mg, and Solian 200 mg, but my husband is not interested in taking medicines. So please suggest ayurvedic medicines that he can take.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query and understand your concern.

As your husband had been suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), you must have known all the facts about this disease. The anxiety disorder and mood fluctuations now your husband has been facing are associated conditions due to OCD. The medicines prescribed by your doctor, the tablet Daxid contain Setraline, the tablet Modin contains Procyclidine, and the tablet Solian contains Amisulpride. These all medications are prescribed for OCD and other psychiatric disorders and have many psychological roles to play while improving mental health. I am suggesting that your husband should not quit the medicine, and you should give him medicine till the ayurvedic medicine achieve its peak effect, and slowly he can taper off the medicine. Now I will suggest you the ayurvedic treatment for OCD:

1. Start giving him Mahapanchgavya ghrita half a teaspoon twice a day with lukewarm water empty stomach for four weeks. It helps in calming his mind, and it is very useful for OCD and anxiety.

2. Syrup Mentat-DS (Brahmi, Ashwagandha, and Madhukaparni) one teaspoon twice a day for four weeks. It improves concentration and helps to relieve anxiety and mental fatigue.

3. Manasamrita Vati (Bala, Nagbala, Bilwa) two tablets twice a day with lukewarm water for four weeks. There are many research articles written on this medicine as a neuroprotective medicine.

4. Tell your husband to practice meditation regularly. Meditation will help him calm his mind extensively and improves his concentration too. Yoga is very helpful for relieving anxiety, so tell him to do yoga daily. Do breathing exercises daily like Pranayam and Anulom Vilom. Breathing exercises will increase the oxygen flow of the body. As a result, it will act as a stress buster. Walk daily for at least 30 minutes a day. Walking helps in releasing the happy hormone. As a result, anxiety will be relieved.

5. Quit smoking and drinking as these will aggravate the problem.

6. Eat healthy food. Take fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. These will help in removing free radicals and improves mental health.

7. You can also choose Panchkarma procedures like Shirodhara or Shirobasti. This will help in relieving the anxiety and is very helpful for OCD.

8. One of the main treatments for OCD is a form of psychotherapy called cognitive behavioral therapy. It includes exposure and response prevention which involves teaching the person to deliberately come in contact with the situation that causes obsession without doing the compulsive acts. Thus gradually making someone tolerate the discomfort he is going through. Your husband is going through a tough time, so give him emotional strength because this problem will take time to relieve, so be patient with him. Once he starts improving, he will be easy to handle. Practice all these things regularly, and you will soon see positive results. The probable cause of your husband's condition is unknown etiology, genetics, or due to some mishappening.

Follow-up after four weeks.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer.
