Hi doctor,

I have been suffering from depression for the past seven years and taking anti-depressants daily morning. Now I am thinking of starting an ayurvedic treatment.

Please help.

Hello,

We welcome you to the icliniq family.

I appreciate the confidence you place in me for your healthcare consultation.

I have read your query and understand your concern. As your problem is chronic, do not quit your medicine (Fluoxetine). Take the medicine as early as possible. Continue it until the ayurvedic treatment reaches its peak level.

I advise you to improve your lifestyle, as it plays a major role in your physical and mental health. Eat healthy homemade food. Take fresh fruits and vegetables daily. Do not take junk food, cold drinks, tea, coffee, etc. Quit smoking and alcohol if you do. Drink one glass of lukewarm milk every night with cardamom powder in it. Get adequate sleep (at least 6 to 8 hours a day). Make sure to go to bed before midnight. Avoid electronic devices and social media one hour before sleep, as blue lights in these can hinder sleep. Try to indulge yourself in extracurricular activities, as it helps to divert your mind and make you feel better. You can join dance classes, yoga classes, etc. Do exercises, yoga, walking, and meditation daily. These all will help you in releasing feel-good hormones, relax your mind, and improve your general health.

You can go for an ayurvedic procedure named Shirobasti which is a treatment with ayurvedic medicated oils. It has been shown to have immense positive results in depression patients. I suggest Ashwagandharishta (Manjistha, Haritaki, Haridra) two teaspoons in water twice daily for four weeks and a tablet of Manasmitravadakam (Bala, Nagbala, Bilwa) two tablets twice daily with water for four weeks. Try this regularly and you will soon see positive results.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
