Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been suffering from chondromalacia patella for the past two years. I have tried many allopathic and homeopathic medicines, but I am still experiencing symptoms. The condition has worsened over time. Is there any treatment available in Ayurveda?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I have just read your query. In chondromalacia patella, the cartilage beneath the kneecap deteriorates and softens. This condition is typically classified into four grades, from 1 to 4. Grades 1 and 2 generally improve with rest and anti-inflammatories. Your doctor will determine the grade through a physical examination.
Rest is crucial in managing chondromalacia patella. You may also use ice packs to alleviate swelling and pain; they can provide significant relief. It is important to stabilize your knee, as movement can exacerbate the condition. A knee brace can help with stabilization. Strengthening exercises for your muscles can help prevent knee malalignment. Consult a physiotherapist for appropriate exercises and guidance. Additionally, you might visit a panchakarma center and inquire about a procedure called Jaanu basti, which can be beneficial for painful knee conditions.
For local relief, apply Mahanarayan oil (containing ashwagandha, bilva, and gokhru) gently to your knee and massage twice daily. This may help alleviate pain. For medication, consider taking Kaishore guggul (containing gokshuru, amruta, guduchi, and tryushana), with two tablets twice daily, accompanied by lukewarm water for three to four weeks. Chew the tablets before swallowing. Additionally, start taking one tablespoon of turmeric powder with milk at night, as turmeric helps reduce inflammation. Local application of a ginger poultice may also be beneficial. You may also consider taking the Ayurvedic tablet Dolid, which contains jatiphal extract, godanti bhasma, and vatsanabh. You can take one to two tablets twice daily for one week.
You can use these treatments alongside your current medication. Try these remedies regularly and you should observe positive results. If your condition does not improve or worsens, consult an orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation and consider the possibility of arthroscopic surgery if necessary.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
