Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 19 years old. Some of my facial hair has changed from black to a light brown color, which appears golden in the sunshine. I also have one or two white hairs on my head. When I was 16, all my hair was dark black. What should I do to restore their natural color?
Please suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The color of hair and skin is determined by a pigment called melanin. The variation in this pigment can differ from person to person due to genetics or environmental factors. Having one or two white hairs is not usually a problem, but it is important to be aware of changes, as it may indicate that your beard is starting to lose its pigmentation. There could be several reasons for this, such as lack of nutrients, hereditary factors (if your father or grandfather experienced the same issue), stress, inadequate sleep, or an unhealthy lifestyle. Since you are young, you can take steps to prevent further changes by adopting simple remedies.
Melanin production relies on various nutrients, so start by following a healthy diet. Include fresh fruits, vegetables, pulses, and eggs in your diet. Avoid excessive tea, coffee, soft drinks, junk food, and spicy food. Ensure you get adequate sleep, at least six to eight hours a night, and try to go to bed before midnight. Manage stress effectively.
Consider taking Kesha kuntal tablets (brahmi, bhringaraja, giloy, and mulethi) two tablets twice a day with water for four weeks. This is effective for preventing premature graying of hair. Additionally, take Hairbac tablets (bhringaraja, giloy, and mulethi) two tablets twice daily for four weeks with water to help prevent further graying.
You can also use a natural remedy: add curry leaves to coconut oil and heat the mixture. Once it cools to a lukewarm temperature, apply the oil to your beard and scalp. Do this two to three times a week. Wash your hair with a mild herbal shampoo.
Try these remedies regularly, and you should see positive results in preventing further graying. If you are considering using a dye for your beard or if you experience excessive graying, consult a dermatologist.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
