Can Gokharu cause prostate issues in males?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old male and am taking Sandu gokharu kadha, two cups two to three times a day, for urinary problems. My urine culture and abdominal sonography reports came back normal. But I am having urine problems, like not emptying my urethra fully.

Some amount of urine is stuck after urination, causing discomfort. I feel like peeing again and again in the toilet. I have never had sex, so I have no sexually transmitted infections (STIs). I did a urine culture two months back and took the full course of antibiotics for that.

But I read online that one should not take Gokharu kada as it may cause prostate problems or kidney-related problems. I am taking this for three days, three times in two cups with some water, but there is no improvement. During my childhood I had a habit of holding my urine and straining while urinating.

  1. Am I too small to consume it?

  2. Should I stop it, or should I switch?

  3. Also, can my case be a pelvic floor problem?

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and seen all your reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). In your ultrasound reports, it was mentioned that there are signs of infective cystourethritis, which means infection of the urethra. The urethra is an organ that carries urine from the bladder to the outside. This infection is different from a UTI (urinary tract infection). It also requires antibiotic treatment.

It is fine if you have already taken antibiotic treatment for this problem; otherwise, visit your urologist. Now, come to your present question: you are taking Gokhru kadha, a medicine for urinary problems. As far as its side effects are concerned, every medicine has some side effects, and not every person needs to go through the same side effects. In the past, any antibiotics you took also had some side effects. That is why it is always said that you should always take medicine with the advice of a doctor.

Now, about the results of Gokhru khadha, you only took it for three days. No medicine can show results this soon. If you want to continue this medicine, take 15 ml of kadha twice daily with an equal amount of water for four weeks.

  1. Cranberries have very good results in urinary problems, so take some cranberry juice regularly.

  2. Drink plenty of water.

  3. Maintain personal hygiene.

  4. Do not take stress as stress will increase the problem.

  5. Do not hold urine whenever you feel the pressure.

  6. Walk daily for at least 30 minutes.

Follow all these things regularly and you will soon feel positive results. In case of an emergency, you can consult your urologist.

I hope this answers your query.

Let me know if I need to assist you further.

Thank you.
