What causes post-urine retention?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old male, and I am having frequent urination. Every time I urinate, there is some amount of urine retained in my penis, and it does not come out. It is causing discomfort, and when I sit down on the toilet, then 1 to 2 drops of urine comes out, but it still does not come out fully. I have done a urine culture, analysis, and ultrasound of my abdomen, which showed no obstruction and stones and no prostate problems. I am confused as to what is causing the problem. My doctor told me to go to an Ayurvedic shop and ask for medication. So, my father brought Gokharu Kadha three days ago, and I am taking two teaspoons of the medicine with little water. Still, my problem is not that improved, and I still feel little urine stuck in my penis. It hurts when I laugh or cough after urinating. Can it be a pelvic floor issue? For the last two days, I also have had incomplete bowel movements. Is Gokharu Kadha good? Should I stop taking it?

Pleas help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query.

  1. If you have a problem with urination and all your investigations are normal, then you might have weak pelvic muscles. To strengthen the pelvic muscles, I suggest you try doing kegel exercises regularly. Learn these exercises and practice daily. Walk daily for 30 minutes, it will also help in strengthening the pelvic muscles.
  2. Gokhru Kadha (Gokhru, Dhai phool, Gud Jaggery) is very good medicine for your condition and continue taking it. Any medicine will take time to show results, so try taking this medicine regularly for one to two months, and you will see positive results. Add equal amounts of water while taking this Kadha.
  3. As you have incomplete bowel movements, you can try Haritaki Churan (Chitraka, Amla, Guduchi), two to three grams in the evening with lukewarm water. Once the bowel movement is regular, then take 0.07 oz of this powder for two to three weeks regularly. It is beneficial for your urination problem too.

Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and start taking the medicines after their consent. Try all these things regularly, and you will soon have positive results.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer.
