How to cure ulcerative colitis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 39-year-old male. I have had ulcerative colitis since last year. I have lost weight in the last 18 months. I have frequent motions, even up to six times a day. But, the consistency of the stools is alright. I also have stomach pain sometimes. I have been taking the following Ayurvedic medicines along with my allopathy medicine of Mesacol 2.4 mg for the last six months.

However, I do not have complete relief. I still have to go to the toilet five times a day. I pass motion twice in the morning before breakfast as my stomach does not get cleaned with once, and then once in the evening, once before going to bed, and once in the middle of the night. Kindly advise some medication and diet for reducing the frequency of the motions and gaining weight.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease and a very notorious disease. Its progress depends on your diet pattern and lifestyle. You are taking good medicines but, I would suggest some changes. You should stop the allopathic medicine gradually. Take the following medicines continuously for three months regularly along with Yoga and exercise and a restricted diet plan:

  1. Kutajaghana Vati (Kutaja bark, Ativisha, water) two tablets twice daily after food.
  2. Arogyavardhini Vati (Shuddha Parada, Shuddha Gandhak, Loha Bhasma) one tablet twice daily after food.
  3. Dadimastaka Churna (Yavani, Trikatu, Nagakesara) 0.11 oz twice daily after food.
  4. Bilvavaleha (Bilva, Gur, Dhataki Flowers) one teaspoon twice a day half an hour before food.
  5. Pipallyasava (Pippali, Kali Mirch, Chavya) one tablespoon twice a day after meals with an equal amount of water.

Along with the medication avoid milk, smoking, drinking, spicy, fried, and junk foods. Drink plenty of water. Eat fibrous food. Include lots of fruits and green leafy vegetables. Buttermilk or curd with cumin is good for you. Exercise regularly. Follow up after 15 days. If you follow all these suggestions it will be cured easily.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
