This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had sciatica pain in the right leg for the last seven days and cannot stand for long. I had painkillers for the same. Kindly help.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I think you have sciatica, which is the pain in the lower extremities. Usually, it starts in the lumbar region and radiates to the lower limbs. Sometimes, it will radiate to one leg or can affect both legs. This is due to the irritation of the nerves. The main causes are inflammation, herniated disc, disc prolapse, or arthritis.

I would suggest an X-ray or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the lumbar region to clarify this. So for now, I will suggest some medicines. Capsule Lumbatone (Ashwagandha, Devdaru, Giloy, Guggul, Rasna, Punarnava, and Castor), two capsules thrice daily. Tablet Maharasnadi Kwath (Gokshura, Ashwagandha, fennel, Atis, and Aconite) two tablets, morning and evening after food. Balarishta (Bala, Satavari, and Rasna) two tablespoons twice daily after food. Rumalaya gel for local application. Reduce hot and spicy food. Avoid cold food items. Do moderate exercise. Avoid taking foods that cause bloating, like potato and Bengal gram (legume). Include ginger, turmeric, carrom seeds, and fenugreek in your diet. After applying the balm, take a warm bath and apply local heat to the affected area.

I hope this helps.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
