A chocolate cyst is an ovarian cyst filled with old blood. It is also known as endometriomas. The causes are endometriosis, retrograde menstrual flow, immune disorders, and genetics. The symptoms are painful periods, pain during sex, pelvic pain, and difficulty in getting pregnant. It is managed by surgery. In cases of recurrence, the doctor suggests oophorectomy where ovaries are removed. It is also managed by taking oral contraceptive pills, laparoscopy, and laparotomy to shrink or remove the cyst.
