Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My nine-year-old daughter has been suffering from allergic rhinitis for the past few years. During the winter season, she frequently experiences colds and coughs, while in the summer, she suffers from coughing and itching on her body. This problem is hereditary, as my family members, including my mother, brother, and sister, also have similar issues. As a result, I regularly give her one Montelukast and Levocetirizine tablets.
I recently consulted an Ayurvedic doctor, who advised me to give her a turmeric formula (organic turmeric rhizome, turmeric extract, and ginger rhizome) and an immunity supplement (organic katuki rhizome with root, krishna tulsi leaf, and vana tulsi leaf). Can I give her these herbal and organic capsules alongside the Montelukast and Levocetirizine tablets? Are they safe to use together?
Please advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I just read your query and reviewed the prescriptions (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity) from both the allopathic and Ayurvedic physicians. To answer your question, you can give these Ayurvedic treatments to your daughter alongside her allopathic medication. They do not have any side effects and should not cause any problems for her, so you can continue with them.
Montelukast and Levocetirizine are anti-allergic medications that prevent the release of histamines, which are responsible for allergies. This is the primary treatment for her condition. In addition to this tablet, you might consider giving her Septilin syrup (containing tinospora, shankha bhasma, and maharasnadi kwath). One teaspoon twice a day with lukewarm water during seasonal changes for one to two months can help boost her body's natural defense mechanisms. You may want to consult your Ayurvedic physician about this as well.
Additionally, encourage her to do simple breathing exercises daily, which can be very beneficial. Applying two drops of cow's milk ghee (clarified butter) in each nostril while warm, once daily for one to two months, can also help relieve symptoms. Try these methods, and you should see positive results. Feel free to consult your Ayurvedic physician for more personalized advice.
Thank you.
