Can taking progesterone pills on the 17th day of the menstrual cycle reduce PMDD symptoms?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have heavy menstrual cycles with a lot of physical and emotional pain before and after my period. I was diagnosed with PMDD (Premenstrual dysphoric disorder). On the 17th day of my cycle, I will start natural progesterone pills for ten days. How does it help the period? How long or how many periods will it take to work effectively? Does it change the period characteristics like the lightness of bleeding, number of days, and cycle length? I had taken birth control pills earlier, which made my symptoms worse. I had undergone tests, and my hormone levels were normal. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

I suggest Evecare syrup (Ashoka, Dashamoola, and Lodhra) 0.35 ounce orally twice daily in the morning and at night after food for 60 days. Consult a specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medication. Simultaneously, keep your diet and lifestyle streamlined. Go for a relative Mediterranean diet and stay well hydrated. It is preferable to stay away from salty or savory foods, fizzy drinks, alcohol, tea, and other similar things. Exercise or de-stress regularly and sleep adequately. Deep breathing techniques, yoga, meditation, and other physical and mental relaxation can also be very beneficial.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
