How can someone with PCOS/PMOS get pregnant?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 25 years old, married, and have been diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS. For the past year, I have been trying to get pregnant, but without success. I have been taking Levonorgestrel and hormonal tablets for the last two months. It is commonly stated that women with PCOS/PMOS do not ovulate; however, I do ovulate monthly but do not have regular periods. My doctor has mentioned that this may be due to hormonal imbalance.

Could you please suggest some Ayurvedic remedies for managing PCOS/PMOS?

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

PCOS/PMOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome/Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) is a hormonal condition that can lead to a disturbed menstrual cycle, obesity, facial hair growth, insulin resistance, and more. Women with PCOS/PMOS do ovulate, but the follicles may be normal-sized or smaller than normal.

In PCOS/PMOS, the eggs that fail to reach normal size accumulate in the ovaries, giving them a beaded appearance, which contributes to hormonal imbalance.

Regarding pregnancy, since you are currently on hormonal tablets, conception may not be possible while you are undergoing this treatment. I suggest you complete your hormonal therapy as advised by your gynecologist before trying to conceive.

In addition to your allopathic medications, you can consider the following Ayurvedic remedies for PCOS/PMOS:

  1. Arogyavardhini vati: Take 150 to 500 mg (two tablets) twice daily with water after meals for four weeks.
  2. Triphala guggulu: Take 10 mg (two tablets) twice daily with water after meals for four weeks. Do not swallow these tablets whole; chew them first and then take them with lukewarm water.
  3. Varunadi kwath: Take 15 mL twice daily with water after meals for four weeks.

Additionally, aim to walk daily for at least 30 to 60 minutes, and incorporate exercise and yoga into your routine. Ensure you get sufficient sleep, ideally before midnight, for at least six to eight hours each night. Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, while avoiding spicy and junk foods, as well as caffeinated drinks.

I hope this answers your questions.

Thank you.
