Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from PCOD for a long time. I am 31 years old and married. I have not conceived yet. My doctor had given me birth control pills for PCOD. I took that for one month but I seem to get severe palpitations after taking that. I have also been suggested to go for a laparoscopy. I have a cyst in my left ovary. Please suggest a proper diet plan to cope PCOD.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I just read your query. Let me tell you about PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) first. In PCOD unmatured eggs are collected in your ovary which further leads to hormonal imbalance. As a result, you get other problems like weight gain and excessive hair, and insulin resistance. So correcting your basic problem of PCOD will cure your other problems too. As you are on birth control pills you can not conceive till then you are on this treatment. Oral contraceptive pills are prescribed to prevent the further development of any new cyst. The rapid heartbeat is one of the side effects of birth control pills.

You can consult your gynecologist regarding this and ask to change the pills. As the size of the ovarian cyst is large that is why your doctor has asked you to perform a laparoscopy. However, cysts are of various types and treatment might vary from one to another. So you can get complete knowledge from your physician regarding which kind of cyst is this and whether there is any other alternative treatment for this. If you want me to explain details about your cyst then do share with me your ultrasound report and other investigations and medicines.

Now coming to your diet plan, eat vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, red leaf lettuce, beans, spinach, pumpkin, and more. Take fresh fruits, mainly add more berries like strawberries. Take a more fibrous diet like whole grain cereals and almonds, walnuts, olive oil, and others in the diet. Avoid fast food and caffeinated drinks. Do some exercise daily. Go for a walk daily at least for 30 to 60 minutes a day. Take Aloe vera juice 0.51 ounces twice a day with water after food for four weeks along with your other medications too.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
