Can PCOD cause problems with getting pregnant?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

We have been married for nine years but have not yet conceived. I have PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease), but my husband’s sperm count is normal. I have undergone three IUI (intrauterine insemination) cycles.

Please assist us.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I recommend the following regimen:

  1. Aloes compound tablet (kumari, hirabol, and kambhoji): Take two tablets in the morning and two at night.
  2. VaanKumari legiyam (aloe vera, cinnamon, almonds, and gulkhand): Take one teaspoon three times daily.
  3. Capsule Siddhadhi ennai (thippili, karun, and seeragam): Take seven capsules together on the second or third day of your period. Consume them at 6:00 AM, and drink only warm water until you have passed stools three times. After this, you can drink lemon salt juice, tender coconut water, and buttermilk in unlimited quantities. Include curd rice in both lunch and dinner, and skip breakfast on this day. Rest at home.
  4. Ulunthu kazhi (black lentil pudding): Consume daily in the evening or morning to increase the chances of pregnancy, whether naturally or via IUI (intrauterine Insemination).
  5. Your husband should take Rathina purush capsule once nightly until pregnancy is confirmed.

Try these methods for up to six months. If pregnancy does not occur, consider IVF (In-vitro Fertilization).

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

We have not conceived even once, which has been very upsetting. Despite having two eggs during my IUI cycle, we have not had success. I will follow your advice. Could my ovarian cysts be contributing to infertility? Will Kalarchikai help?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If your periods are regular, Kalarchikai is not necessary. If they are irregular, you can take them along with the other medications I have suggested. Many patients experience difficulty conceiving despite normal laboratory reports. Therefore, you should not blame the polycysts, provided you have at least one mature ovum each month. If the mature ovum is not healthy, it can also result in conception failure.

Many other factors, such as psychology, stress, and confidence, can also play a role. Stay positive and hopeful. Try using Siddha medicines for six months. If successful, that is great. If not, consider IVF after six months. Given your age, I recommend considering IVF.

Thank you.
