Can ayurvedic medications help to manage narcolepsy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have narcolepsy and have lived for years without taking medications for it. Before this, I took stimulants for 20 years. I developed a deep asana, breath, and sadhana ten years ago. I have moved from my pitta years toward vatta. I am taking a blend of Bacopa, Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Bala, and Licorice. I recently came across this formula for narcolepsy - Bacopa, Manasamitra Vatakam, Ksheerabala Thailum, Ashwagahdharista, Shiva Gutika, Brahmi Gritham, and Sarawatarishta. What is the difference between Ashwaghanada and Ashwagandharishta? Is there another formula for this condition that is advisable?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Narcolepsy has two types, 1 and 2; which one do you have? Please elaborate more about your symptoms.

Ashwagandha is a herb in its raw form, and Ashwagandharishta is a self-fermented form of medicine made from Ashwagandha.

I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Use Nasya oil, Shiro Pichu, and do suryanamaskar for seven days. And Yoga nidra will bring you tremendous energy.
  2. Avoid a sedentary lifestyle.
  3. You can continue your current medications.
  4. Also, are there any other medications you are taking for any other illness like thyroid?

Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
