Is it necessary to take Multivitamins for irregular periods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi Doctor,

I have been having irregular periods since I started getting periods at the age of 13. A bit of history about me is that in my childhood, I used to be sick with a cold and cough a lot of times, and my weight was always less. After I started getting periods, they were irregular. So, I consulted a gynecologist, and she gave me some multivitamins, and they became normal. When I stopped taking them, they became irregular again. At the age of 18, I consulted another gynecologist, and he said I had a cyst in one of my ovaries, so he gave me a medicine to dissolve the cyst.

My stomach was very painful at that time. Then, after that, again the periods became normal, and again, after some time, they became irregular. So, when I consulted another gynecologist, she gave me contraception pills. They were normal until I was taking them. Now, I have stopped taking any medication for the past two years, and suddenly, in the past six months, my weight has gradually increased.

My height is 5 feet 2 inches, and my weight is 130.07 pounds. I recently had a scan done, and the doctor said they found a very minor cyst in both ovaries. He has suggested losing some weight. But even when I was underweight, I had the same issue. What shall I do? Should I keep taking the multivitamins until my menopause age and stop after that?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query.

Also ask your doctor about thyroid function test because it can also cause this problem. Yes, you can take Multivitamin as advised to you on and off or for a long time, if you feel better. You can also take following Ayurvedic treatment for the management of your irregular periods and for management of your cyst.

Aloe vera juice one tablespoon two times a day with water after food for one month. Tablet Kanchnnar gugglu (Kanchanar, Haritaki, Bibhitaka) two tablets two times a day with lukewarm water for one month. Do not swallow these tablets, first chew them and then take it with water. Add ginger in your daily routine. Do walk daily. These all things will help you in the management of your problem.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
