Is there an ayurveda remedy for severe menstrual pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife is 24 years old. Six months back, we got married. Over last two months she is suffering with severe menstrual pain. Even painkiller is not giving any relief to her. She is taking Evecare syrup from Himalaya over a month. Kindly help her get rid of this pain.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please tell me about her age of menarche, her menstrual cycle and the number of days she bleeds. Is she on any medication? Is this the first episode of heavy bleeding?

My advice to your wife is to go in for pelvic ultrasonography (UGS). She can continue using Evecare (Ashoka Tree, Asparagus, Lodh Tree, Malabar Nut). Along with that ask her to take Rajah Pravartini Vati (Kanya, Kaseesa, Tankana, Ramatha) or Rajocaps (Aloe, Shuddha hing, Shuddha suhaga, Kasis bhasma) two capsules twice a day. Take the capsule 10 days prior to the expected menstruation date with warm water. This helps to relieve the pain. Also, ask her to take 1 tablespoon of Phala Kalyanaka Ghrita (Ghrta, Triphala, Musta, Haridra) with milk twice daily.

I hope this has helped you.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your advice.

Her menarche was at the age of 14. She is bleeding heavily for the first two days with heavy pain. From the third day, both pain and bleeding were less. Usually, it will stop on the fourth day. Sometimes it occurs again on the fifth day. She does not have any past relationships. We have a normal sex drive. But, sometimes a white fluid comes from her vagina. We did anal sex for about two to three times. Can it cause severe pain during menstruation?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As you have mentioned about white vaginal discharge, there may be chances of vaginal infection. Abstain from anal sex. Get the USG-pelvis (ultrasound) done and report back. Continue with the medicines till then. We will decide on the further investigation and treatment depending on the USG report.

I hope this has helped you.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Is it advisable to continue the Evecare and Rajah Pravartini Vati during menstruation? Or should she stop these during menstruation?

Please guide.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, she can continue Evecare and Rajah Pravartini Vati during her periods. She will benefit more if she takes Phala Kalyanaka Ghrita also.

I hope this has helped you.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
