Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 38-year-old male. My weight is 176.37 pounds and I am trying to lose some of it. My height is 5 feet 9 inches. I was hospitalized with the sudden and severe onset of diabetes at 31. I am taking Insulin to control it. I also take Enalapril for high blood pressure. For most of my life, I have been overweight.
Because of all this, I think I am at an increased risk of developing heart disease. I have been thinking of taking Arjuna, but I am not sure whether it will significantly reduce arterial plaque buildup. If Arjuna is not the answer, what herb should I take for removing plaque? What about Hridyamrit? Currently, I am taking Chyawanprash and Shilajit.
Kindly suggest.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
You are still in young age group with diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Insulin is the best therapy for diabetes. You can consult your physician for any oral tablets (alternate to Insulin injection), as it is the lifelong treatment. If you have high blood glucose, then Insulin is the only option. That can be decided by your clinician. If diabetes and hypertension are not controlled properly, then they may lead to cardiac diseases especially left ventricular hypertrophy.
For hypertension, Enalapril is the best drug. The advantage of Enalapril is, this drug not only control the blood pressure, but also prevents the cardiac complications such as left ventricular hypertrophy. Thus, you no need to worry. My advice is to continue allopathy drugs for diabetes and blood pressure. But, weight reduction is a must. If cholesterol is not under control, then you will have risk of heart disease. Try to reduce the body weight through aerobic exercises, reduce oil, reduce meat foods and avoid smoking and alcohol, if you have the habit.
Also, yoga is the best to control your weight and protect the heart. Arjuna is a good option. But, you can consume Marutham capsules (Maruthampattai) (1 capsule morning and 1 at evening after food) instead of Arjuna. This can be continued for life long. This is the best drug than Arjuna as it has few additional herbals which can give additional good immunity and prevent plaque formations. This can prevent the cardiac complications.
The Marutham capsules contain Iron, Shilajit, and other good herbals. So, no need to take Shilajit, Arjuna and Hridyamrit separately. Only Marutham capsule alone is enough. Since you have diabetes, better to avoid Chyawanprash, as it has sugar base. Instead, you can take Triphala tablet one in the morning and two at night. Avoid tea and coffee as they are not good if we use for the long term.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.
Thank you.
