Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My creatinine has been between 1.70 to 2.10 for the last five years. I am on Ayurveda kidney medicine. Can I take Ayurveda medicine for kidney problems for more than 5 to 10 years? Will it cause any side effects on long-term use?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Any medicine must be taken with precautions. Further, Ayurvedic medicine is of many types like herbal medicine having only herbal contents, and medicine having minerals (having raw metallic contents). Mineral medicine cannot be taken for the long term because after usage the waste part is removed by the kidney, and on long-term usage sometimes they collect inside the body and may act as a toxin and can produce harmful effects. Normal creatinine levels should be up to 1.2.
It is on the mild higher side, but still in control. Keep an eye on creatinine level and keep on checking it frequently. Take a diet according to your creatinine level so that it will not increase. The medicine you are taking is good. But, do not use the same medicine for the long term. Keep on changing your Ayurvedic medicine frequently with the help of your Ayurveda physician. This will help you in saving from the side effects of long-term use of mineral preparations. If you have been using the same medicine for more than five years, then do change it with the help of your Ayurveda physician.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
