Can herbal medicines interfere with follicle growth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I would like to know if I can take Karachi churna. I have PCOS/PMOS (polycystic ovary syndrome/polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) with irregular periods and ovulation issues. I was on Clomifene for stimulation, which promoted follicle growth and ovulation but did not result in conception. I am now receiving FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) injections for stimulation.

Can I take Karachi churna while on these injections? Will it interfere with follicle growth? Additionally, my testosterone levels are high. What can I take to manage that?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

PCOS/PMOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome/polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) is not a single disease but a group of disorders. It results from hormonal imbalance, which leads to the development of immature ova that convert into fluid-filled cysts. This condition causes irregular menstruation and elevated levels of androgen hormones. PCOS/PMOS can be managed through Ayurvedic medicines and yoga practices. Kalarchi choornam is a Siddha medicine commonly used for PCOS/PMOS. You can take 0.07 ounces twice a day after meals.

Additionally, practice regular kapalabhati, mandukasana, and pranayamas such as anuloma viloma, nadi shodhana, and bhramari to improve metabolism. Avoid spicy and fried junk foods, and instead, eat fibrous foods, fruits, and green leafy vegetables. Drink plenty of water.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
