What causes pain near the belly button and constipation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 35-year-old female weighing 132.28 pounds. I have pain and inflammation in the intestinal area near and around the belly button. It feels like gas got stuck between stools inside the intestine, which hurts.

I have been facing constipation for three months, and I depend on laxatives for smooth stool passing. I have taken allopathic medicines, but they did not work. I have also taken antibiotics and antacids.

Currently, I am taking ayurvedic medicines; Punarnavarishta and Bilwadi churna. I have done stool tests, urine tests, blood tests, kidney function tests, liver function tests, ultrasonography, and X-rays. All the test results came normal. The stool test says the stool is acidic in nature. CBC is normal. For the last 20 days, the stool has become slippery as if containing some mucous. I have sleep deprivation and restlessness. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just went through all your symptoms and history.

I think you might be suffering from colitis or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In Ayurveda, we can call this grahani dosha. Your digestive fire (jatharagni) has been reduced, and you are not able to digest food completely. Such partially digested food (aam) causes gases, bloating, and pain. Intestinal movement is also disturbed, and there may be some inflammation there.

I suggest you improve digestive fire (jathragni) to reduce swelling caused in the intestine and regulate healthy intestinal movement by preserving good bacterial flora in the gut. Avoid eating bakery products, maida (refined flour), oily, spicy, and preserved food. Avoid fish, curd, and pickle. Avoid drinking water immediately after meals; drink warm water 30 minutes after food. Avoid sleeping during the day and get a good eight-hour sleep at night. Avoid refrigerated drinks and food.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
