What causes heavy menstruation in alternative months?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 40 years old. Having periods alternate months, one month for only one day, and the following month, there is heavy bleeding, and the cycle lasts for more than ten days. Ultrasound is normal. I took Ashokarishta thyronorm 25 mcg. The latest level was two. I have a two-year-old daughter who left breastfeeding last month. I have done prolactin and TSH tests. Kindly guide.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There are several causes for irregular periods. Inflammatory pelvic disease, polycystic ovarian cyst, uterine fibroid, emergency pills, hormonal changes, or other unknown causes are responsible for irregular or heavy bleeding. So, a complete history and ultrasound abdomen and thyroid profile are required to get a proper diagnosis. As per your complaints, Ashokaristam is the better solution.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have attached the TSH results. Kindly check.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have seen your attachments (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Your ultrasound report shows a simple ovarian cyst. It causes irregular periods. It can be managed naturally through ayurvedic medicines to yoga practices. Your TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) level is within the normal range. So nothing to worry about this, and continue your previous thyroid medication.

I suggest you take an ultrasound abdomen after two months of medications. I recommend taking Baidyanath Kanchanar Guggulu (Guggul, Kachnar, Trikatu, and Triphala ) one tablet twice a day after meals with lukewarm water, Charak Hypponid (Vijaysaar, Amalakki, Haridra) two tablets thrice a day after meals with lukewarm water, M2 tone (Ashoka, Lodhra, Ashwagandha)10 ml twice a day before food, Nagarjuna Phal sarpi (Manjishta, Kushta, Tagara) one teaspoon twice a week before food, Baidyanath Chandraprabha Vati (Amla, Sandlewood, Dharuharidhra) one tablet twice a day after meals. Take these medicines regularly for one month.

Avoid spicy and fried junk foods. Quit tea, coffee, cold drinks, soft drinks, and ice cream. Do regular kapalbhati, Mandulasa as well as pranayam like anuloma vilma, nadi sodhan and bhramari. Instead, drink plenty of lukewarm water.

Do these things and provide your valuable feedback after one month of medication.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

I will take the medication prescribed. Yes, a simple cyst was seen, which got shed by itself as it was not there during earlier scans. I had to get a repeat scan but could not.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You should still start medications even if your ultrasound report is normal. Because these medicines regulate your metabolism and hormonal imbalances, which helps regulate your period. Take them continuously for two months with suggested instructions. If you have any issues during meditation, kindly feel free to revert.

Thanks for showing your belief in us. We are always here for you.
