How to manage inguinal hernia with an absent cough impulse?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 58-year-old female. My height is 5 feet 2 inches, and my weight is 134.48 pounds. I have a right inguinal hernia with an absent cough impulse and a fat-burning sensation. I am not taking any medications. A CT scan revealed a defect measuring 14 millimeters noted in the right inguinal region with omentum as herniated contents and cough impulse absent.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

An inguinal hernia is the protrusion of an internal organ through a weak inguinal area. Sometimes it causes pain due to the stretching of the muscle. A combination of muscle weakness and straining, such as heavy weight lifting, coughing, and constipation are the probable causes of inguinal hernia. Some people are born with weak abdominal muscles and may be more likely to get a hernia.

I suggest you get a USG (ultrasonography) of the abdomen. I also suggest you follow preventive measures like avoiding spicy and fried junk foods. Prevent cough, constipation, and heavy weight lifting. Eat fibrous foods and fruit, as well as leafy green vegetables. Do these things and provide your valuable feedback after fifteen days.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.
