Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 42 years old, married for five years, and undergoing fertility treatment. I have undergone IVF (in vitro fertilization) twice, but both attempts were unsuccessful. A semen analysis conducted four years ago showed average sperm quality, with 40 percent of healthy sperms. After our second IVF failure, I was advised to take the SCSA (sperm chromatin structure assay) test, which indicated fair to poor DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) integrity.
The doctor recommended taking nutritional supplement for three months and then repeating the SCSA test. Based on the results, we will decide on the possibility of another IVF procedure. My partner had pelvic tuberculosis, which damaged her tubes, and she underwent treatment for three years. Now, the issue lies with my semen quality, limiting our options for improvement.
I am an environmental scientist or consultant, with no exposure to chemicals or toxins, but I frequently travel. I was an athlete until the age of 30 but gained weight after quitting athletics. Currently, I am 5.5 feet tall and weigh 167 pounds. I developed hypertension four years ago and take Olmesartan 40 mg and Rosuvastatin 10 mg daily. Can I take Maxoza-L along with other Siddha or Ayurvedic medicines? Please advise on suitable lifestyle modifications.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.
As you age, the chances for fertility decrease because of other risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and mental stress. In your case, the quality of semen in terms of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) integrity has declined within three years. Usually, chromatin damage occurs in humans working in industry or when exposed to chemicals, toxic drugs, or radiation. The possibilities in your case might be a stressful life, frequent travel, and aging. Please continue nutritional supplement containing Levo-carnitine, fructo oligosaccharide, citric acid, and folic acid, as per the physician's advice. In addition, I suggest the following:
1) Take a bath daily. Morning head and body bath and only body bath in the evening.
2) Apply daily Kumari ennai (aloe vera, castor oil, and cumin), Kulir thamarai thailam (lotus, sesame oil, and tulasi), or Brahmi thailam (brahmi leaves and coconut oil) one hour before the morning bath. It is to maintain normal body temperature.
3) Avoid continuous sitting or wearing tight pants. Wear cotton or loose pants.
4) Avoid tea, coffee, chicken, packed juices, or foods. It will have a bad effect on sperm.
5) You can drink almond milk, cow milk, tender coconut water, and fresh fruit juices.
6) Consume one capsule of 'Rathina Pursh' (Withania somnifera, Mucuna pruiens, and Hybenthus ennespermus) twice daily for three months.
7) Engage in learning new stress-free arts such as yoga or pranayama. Do practice it regularly.
8) Go to a temple or church and have maximum hope in your favorite God and the medicines you take.
9) Go to a picnic to relax your mind. Stress will affect your hormone level.
The newly formed sperm will take approximately 70 days to become mature and healthy. Thus, continuous medicine or building a lifestyle routine is important. I think these medicines will improve sperm quality, which is more than enough for conception. Consult a specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medication.
I hope this will help you.
Thank you.
