Can a specific hair oil help in delaying or reversing gray hair?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 31 years old and was diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism a week ago. I have noticed my hair turning gray over the past year, and I have been using a combination of coconut oil, curry leaves, and garlic. Is there a specific type of oil that can help delay the graying of my hair and possibly reverse the graying that has already occurred?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, but you did not share your thyroid reports. If it is mild, keep an eye on it and repeat the test after a few months. This way, you can take appropriate medication if it increases. For now, focus on maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly to help with your thyroid. Since you have a bit more weight, try to control it now.

Regarding your grey hairs, those that have already turned white cannot return to their natural color. However, you can prevent further greying of hair by:

  1. Continue using curry leaves and coconut oil as you have been doing. It is good for your hair.
  2. Use Bhringraj oil for your hair. Apply it once or twice a week, alternately with your previously mentioned hair oil. Apply it one night before washing or two to three hours before washing.
  3. Use a mild herbal shampoo for hair washing.
  4. Drink lukewarm milk with a pinch of pepper and turmeric. This will increase your immunity and prevent further greying of hair.
  5. Eat healthy and fresh food. Add dates, raisins, and other dry fruits to your diet. Avoid excessive tea, coffee, cold drinks, junk, and spicy food.
  6. Sleep for at least six to eight hours a day.
  7. Avoid too much stress as it can worsen your problem.
  8. Take Bhringraj one capsule twice a day with water for four weeks.
  9. Take Ashwagandha one capsule twice a day with water for four weeks.

Try all these regularly, and you will soon feel positive results.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer.

Thank you.
