Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been diagnosed with gallstones following abdominal pain for two weeks. I had sonography done. An ayurveda doctor gave Gorochanadi (Cow stone) thrice a day. I was wondering if it is the right medicine. If effective, how does it cure?

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for stopping by!

I am here to provide expert opinions on your medical issues.

I just read your query. As you have been suffering from gallstones, what matters is whether you have multiple or single stones and the size of the stones. Since you have been suffering from abdominal pain, it can be due to an acute infection or generally due to stones or acidity. If there is an acute infection, it should be managed appropriately. Only a few studies have proved that stones made up of cholesterol dissolve with the help of medicines but it may take a very long time. The majority of the cases require surgery to remove gallbladder stones. Because sometimes, the stone might pass to the common bile duct and cause blockage, increasing the problem. As far as your medicine is concerned, it is a mineral medicine. There is no proven study that it will dissolve your stone. However, if you want to try it, you can. But keep an eye on your condition. If you feel increased abdominal pain or any other unusual symptom, consult a doctor immediately. Besides medicine, I suggest the following:

1. Follow a light diet.

2. Do not eat oily and spicy food.

3. Avoid excessive use of tea, coffee, and cold drinks.

4. Avoid smoking and drinking if you do.

5. Do some exercise like walking daily.

I hope you are satisfied with the answer. For more queries, you can revert.

Thank you.
