How are prostate and urination problems treated in Ayurveda?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having a white coating on my tongue. Also, since my childhood, I have had a problem with frequent urination. I have a slightly enlarged prostate of 21.9 whereas less than 20 is normal. My skin has always been very dry. For about one or two years, I am losing hair and suffering from dandruff. Now I am doing daily tongue scraping, oil pulling for three minutes, asanas and some pranayama. My diet is mainly vegetarian.

I am on my eighth day of a kitchari mono-diet. I have taken 30 to 60 mL of ghee per day for one week. I am eating twice per day (breakfast and lunch). However, the coating on the tongue remains the same with no improvement. Should I continue the mono-diet? If so, then for how long? As for the urination problem and enlarged prostate, what is your opinion on Himplasia tablets? Would they be beneficial?

Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your details and found that you are following certain kind of diet, which is not really beneficial in this condition. Instead of sticking with a mono-diet (ayurveda diet for detoxification) you can make the following practices.

  1. Eat only three meals a day at regular intervals: a light breakfast, a light dinner, and a sufficient lunch. Vegetarian food is recommended.
  2. Continue with your yoga and pranayama practice. Pay special attention to Kapalabhati and Mukha Dhauti. You may also learn Agnisara Kriya from an experienced yoga teacher. Dynamic yoga is advisable since you have no other ailments.
  3. Avoid all dairy products, such as ghee and chocolates. Drink 101.4 to 135.2 ounces of warm water daily.
  4. Do not sleep during the day. Apply sesame oil all over your body and head before bathing. You may use anti-dandruff shampoos if needed.
  5. Avoid all carbonated drinks, preserved foods, and artificial foods.
  6. Do not mix cooked and uncooked food; cooked food is the best choice.
  7. Ensure you feel hungry each time you eat. Following these guidelines should help restore your appetite. Once you experience a good hunger, most issues should be resolved.
  8. Consider using Ayurvedic supplements containing Gokshura, Puga, and Varuna for your prostate condition.
  9. In yoga, practicing Setubandhasana, Pavanamuktasana, and butterfly postures is beneficial.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me.

Thank you.
