Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been taking ayurvedic medicine, Pykure tablets for fistula for the past month. However, the fistula burst a fortnight back and there is a small amount of pus discharging. I consulted a doctor who advised it will heal within one to five months. How to know if my fistula is completely healed? How do I recover from fistula faster?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query, and I can understand your concern.
Clinical examination by a doctor can determine whether or not the fistula has healed. As your fistula has burst, it may take several days to heal, as your doctor advised. You can take the following measures for proper healing:
Firstly, do a sitz bath twice daily. In a sitz bath, take a tub filled with lukewarm water and sit in this tub for 15 to 20 minutes. You can add a little bit of antibiotic liquid to the water if prescribed by your doctor. Or else, you can take some neem leaves (Azadirachta indica) and boil them in water, then add this water to the tub as neem also has antibacterial properties.
Consume food rich in fibers like fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans. They will help prevent constipation.
Avoid spicy food and excessive caffeinated drinks, which may increase constipation and exacerbate the problem.
Drink plenty of water and clear liquids to avoid constipation.
Avoid sitting on hard surfaces.
Walk for a few minutes every day.
Keep a gauze piece in your undergarments to soak pus while working.
In case, you feel excessive pain, see fresh blood, or experience unusual symptoms consult your doctor immediately.
Go for regular checks so the doctor can see whether it is healing or not.
Most fistulas are treated by surgery, and after surgery, the surgical wound needs regular check-ups. But as your fistula has burst on its own, you can also take an opinion from the general surgeon so that they can do the clinical examination.
I hope this information will help you. For more queries, consult icliniq.com.
