ESR, otherwise called erythrocyte sedimentation rate or sedimentation rate test, is a blood test that is done to detect the rate at which red blood cells settle at the bottom of a blood sample in a test tube. It is a non-specific test done to diagnose inflammation. This test is done to diagnose autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, cancers, and infection.
