What is the treatment for stage 4 endometrial cancer?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother has been diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Is there a treatment plan for stage 4 endometrial cancer with lung metastasis? The uterus has been removed, but there has been a recurrence in the lungs (with no recurrence at the surgical site).

Please suggest possible options.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Based on the information provided, it appears to be stage 4B endometrial cancer, which is clinically considered the final stage. In allopathic medicine, treatment options depend on various factors, including age, associated medical conditions, the general condition of the patient, and any other diseases the patient may have. One commonality is that surgery is not an option.

The available treatment option is chemotherapy. For this stage, several drugs are recommended, including Cisplatin and Paclitaxel, and these can be combined. Since the uterus has already been removed, hormonal therapy will not be effective. Whether chemotherapy should be administered and, if so, which drugs to use, depends on the factors mentioned above. If the patient's general condition is good, they are younger, and there are no other significant co-existing diseases, chemotherapy should be considered.

However, if the patient is over 60 years old and/or has other co-existing diseases such as diabetes or renal conditions, chemotherapy may not be advisable. In Ayurveda, there are some medicines available, though they are not clinically proven. For such patients, basic treatments according to doshas (vata, pitta, and kapha) may provide relief and help decrease clinical symptoms. Typically, detailed information about the patient's body composition and clinical symptoms is needed to recommend a specific treatment plan. Generally, since the disease originated in the vata sthana and spread to the kapha sthana, and due to the progression over time, all three doshas are usually disturbed. Sadabahar has been used with considerable success in such cases, and guduchi is also used. Cow urine has been shown to be beneficial in such cases. The final treatment plan should be based on a detailed assessment of the body composition and doshas.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
