Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been a diabetes patient for a long time and have been taking allopathic medicines for ten years. There was no definite improvement in my sugar level, but it stayed within reasonable limits, that is around 140 to 160 mg/dL (random). I stopped taking allopathic medicines after that to avoid getting my other organs affected, and since then, I have been on millet meals. I have felt very energetic since then, but my sugar level is not improving. I got my fasting sugar and HbA1c checked, and it was 236 and 9.6 respectively. I am now looking to get my diabetes treated through an Ayurvedic doctor. Can you please advise me on medicines for treating my diabetes?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I just read your query and saw the attached files (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). I understand your concern related to allopathic medicines and their side effects on other organs. But let me clarify this thing first - our pancreas secretes insulin regularly so that the sugar level in our body remains at the required level only. But when the pancreas secretes less amount as compared to the needs of the body, sugar levels in our body start increasing. As a result, blood sugar levels rise, and our urine also starts showing the presence of sugar in it.
Modern medicine has an important role in maintaining a normal sugar level because increased sugar levels may further lead to various symptoms in the body like increased thirst, disturbed hunger, fatigue, blurring of vision, slow healing of wounds, tingling sensation, numbness in hands or feet, etc. The maintenance of the sugar level needs regular supervision. So I advise you to visit a nearby general physician or diabetes specialist and take medicine to maintain your sugar level first because they are on the higher side right now, and may affect the functioning of other organs, as I explained above.
Along with medicine, take a proper diet chart from a dietician so that he or she can monitor you and provide you with a regular diet chart for a while. Once your sugar level comes within normal range, I suggest visiting a nearby ayurveda physician and start taking the medication under his or her supervision. When your doctor advises you not to take any medicine, then stop taking it, not by yourself. It is not like you only take medicine once and keep on taking that medicine regularly or stop on your own. You need to visit the physician regularly.
But if you still want only Ayurveda management, I suggest taking it under the supervision of a nearby Ayurveda physician so that in case of any emergency, you can consult him immediately. Because sometimes fluctuations in sugar level may lead to some health issues, it is better to take management from a nearby physician whom you can approach easily and immediately whenever you feel the need.
I hope you understand my point. Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you.
