Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Are there any Ayurvedic medicines that can prevent tooth decay? I was told that there is an effective medicine that, when applied to the tooth, can stop tooth decay. I have dark spots on one tooth and a small cavity on another.
Kindly give your suggestions.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Dental caries are caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans and lactobacilli. If sugar or food particles are left in the oral cavity overnight, or if the mouth is dry due to insufficient water intake, these bacteria can form caries in the teeth. Therefore, maintaining proper oral hygiene such as gargling after meals, brushing before bed, and having regular dental check-ups is essential to prevent caries. Herbal-based toothpaste can help maintain oral health and keep the gums healthier.
Once caries have appeared, it is best to consult a dentist for removal, as regular brushing or herbal treatments cannot eliminate them. For pain relief, clove oil or other herbal remedies with local anesthetic properties, such as sichuan buttons, can be used, but these are only temporary measures. It is believed that applying a fruit of solanum xanthocarpum to the tooth may help destroy caries. Chirattai thailam (Cocos nucifera) is a Siddha oil that can be applied to black spots to remove them, but it should be done by a physician to avoid local irritation.
My advice is to consult a Siddha doctor to inquire about Chirattai thailam. If this does not work, consulting a dentist is the best option to prevent further spread and pain.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I agree that less water intake can contribute to dental issues. If I am unable to find a Siddha doctor in my area, can I buy Chirattai thailam and apply it myself? Additionally, if you do not mind, could you please suggest any supplements or medications for dry eyes caused by excessive screen time?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com
I recommend that you stay well-hydrated and keep your mouth moist. You can purchase Chirattai thailam from a nearby Ayush medical shop or online, but applying it is at your own risk, and I cannot endorse it for self-medication.
For dry eyes caused by excessive screen time, I suggest using Ezhaneer kuzhambu, which contains punarnava, bilva, and jivanti. Apply one drop to each eye at bedtime and close your eyes tightly for five minutes. This may cause tearing and a burning sensation for a few minutes. During the day, wash your face with plain water frequently to help reduce heat in the eyes.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
