Can Ayurvedic medicine help manage urinary issues?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old male. As a computer engineer, I have to sit in front of a computer for more than four to five hours, but I manage to take breaks to stand up and walk in between. My problem is related to urination: I have difficulty initiating urine, and it takes time to start. I also have to focus on the opening of my penis (urethra) to ensure the urine does not retract. After urination, I often feel like my bladder is not completely emptied. Sometimes, if I drink a bit more water than usual, I end up urinating more frequently. This issue began when I started my job.

I have undergone several tests before and after this problem started. Initially, I had a urine culture and urine analysis done. Based on the results, my doctor gave me a heavy course of antibiotics via saline for five days, along with two antibiotic injections. Despite completing the treatment, my problem did not improve, instead, I developed constipation. Since then, I have been experiencing recurrent constipation, which I believe is due to the strong antibiotics.

As my condition did not improve, I consulted another doctor. He advised me to get a urine examination (which I have uploaded here) and an ultrasound of my stomach and pelvis (results also uploaded). Based on the ultrasound findings, he prescribed two antibiotics. However, I only took them for two days, and on the third and fourth days, I took half the prescribed dose before discontinuing due to the constipation they caused.

Now, I am concerned about antibiotic resistance and the potential damage to my gut caused by improper antibiotic use, which I recently read about. Therefore, I am considering Ayurvedic treatment for both my urination and constipation issues. Currently, I am still constipated, and unable to fully pass stool. Although my stool is soft, I have to strain, and I only pass a small amount. Sometimes it is liquid, but I still have difficulty passing it fully.

I am seeking a perfect Ayurvedic treatment for these issues and an expert doctor who can understand my condition.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I have reviewed all your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). Currently, most of your reports are within the normal range, except for the presence of infective cystitis, which is caused by an infection. This is why your doctor prescribed antibiotics. Ideally, you should have completed the full course of antibiotics. Since you did not, there is no need to dwell on it now, but in the future, it is important to finish the course or consult your physician if you wish to stop.

Now, regarding Ayurvedic treatment, follow the medicines and advice below, and you should notice positive results soon. As for your allopathic (conventional) medicine, if you have an appointment with your doctor, you can discuss the medications and consider taking Ayurvedic medicine alongside them. However, if you prefer to rely solely on Ayurvedic treatment, that is fine too—just monitor your health closely. The urination problem is likely due to the infective cystitis. Please consult your physician before taking any medications.

Ayurvedic treatment includes:

  1. Syrup Neeri: 10 ml with water, twice a day, for three weeks.
  2. Shilajit capsule (asphaltum): One capsule, twice a day, with water for two weeks.
  3. Gokhru capsule (tribulus): One capsule, twice a day, with water for two weeks.

Additional tips for better results:

  1. Drink plenty of water; it will help significantly.
  2. Do not hold in urine when you feel the urge to urinate.
  3. Walk daily for at least 30 minutes. This will improve pelvic blood flow and help your condition.
  4. Avoid stress, as it can exacerbate your symptoms.
  5. Ensure you get at least six to eight hours of sleep daily, and try to sleep before midnight.

Follow these recommendations consistently, and you should notice positive results within seven to ten days. In case of an emergency, consult a nearby physician, but otherwise, continue with the above guidance.

I hope this answers your question.

Thank you.

Regarding follow up
