Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 62-year-old woman. I have frequent constipation and bloating and do not have regular bowel movements. I had undergone treatment for rectal cancer ten years back and got my rectum removed. Also, nine years back, I got my gallbladder removed due to stones. I also have a complaint of irritable scalp sweating that gets aggravated in summer, during exercise, or when I work in the kitchen. Sometimes, I also have water retention and feel heavy. Currently, I am taking medicines for high blood pressure (which is under control), antacid tablet Nexpro RD 20 mg in the morning, and calcium and multivitamin supplements. I am fine with my regular life; however, it would be nice if my constipation gets cured.
Kindly advise.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
There are many medicines in Ayurveda for bloating and constipation. But keeping in mind your history, I am suggesting a treatment plan that has only plant-based ingredients and not any heavy metal or other heavy ingredients. Take two teaspoons of Triphala Churna (Gaja Pippali, Kali Marich, Shunthi) at bedtime with lukewarm milk or lukewarm water regularly. Unlike other medications, you can take it for longer, like one to two months, until your bowel movements get settled. Chew half a teaspoon of fennel seeds after every meal. They will help you with better digestion, bloating, and gas problems.
Whenever you feel excessive gas or bloating, take one glass of water and add half a teaspoon of carom seeds, half a teaspoon of fennel seeds, one-fourth teaspoon of cumin seeds, and a pinch of asafoetida in it. Boil it till half of the water quantity remains. Then, strain the water through a sieve, add a pinch of rock salt to it (add salt only when blood pressure is under control), and drink it. You can also do it regularly if you feel comfortable after drinking this. Walk daily for at least 30 to 60 minutes. It will help in normalizing bowel movements. Drink one glass of lukewarm water after waking up in the morning. These tips will help ease your constipation. Also, you can consult an Ayurveda physician after one month regarding improvement and further management.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
