Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am writing because I have a cold intolerance. My body temperature averages about 97.5 Fahrenheit, and I am always wearing sweaters and layers. I have been told I have a low thyroid, but I have not taken any medication. I have also had adrenal fatigue, and my eyebrows are thinning. What should I do?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to iCliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
As you mentioned, you have thyroid gland dysfunction; you must know that when thyroid hormone levels are not in the normal range, they lead to various symptoms. Intolerance to cold is one among them. Other symptoms can be irregular periods, thinning of hair, joint pains, irregular hunger, etc.
You have not mentioned the reports of your thyroid hormone here. The report is necessary to decide whether you need regular hormone therapy or not because thyroid hormone is regularly secreted by our thyroid gland, which is located in the throat area. Our body requires thyroid hormone for various functions, from metabolism to controlling our temperature.
So, if your body is severely lacking it, then you need to take the thyroid hormone pill regularly for some time, and then you need to repeat the thyroid function test regularly so that if there is any need for dose alteration, it can be done. You do not need to worry about this problem because it can be entirely controlled after taking medication. You can consult a nearby general physician or a medical specialist, who can guide you further.
Now, coming to your Ayurvedic management and lifestyle changes for the main problem you have mentioned here, which is intolerance to cold, it is due to thyroid hormone dysfunction. So, follow the instructions given below:
First of all, you need to do regular physical exercise in any form. It will help maintain your body temperature and keep your thyroid levels in the normal range. You need to do a regular walk for 30 to 60 minutes a day. Besides this, add any kind of workout like yoga, cycling, or Zumba, or you can also do exercise under the supervision of a professional. You can practice surya namaskar, pranayama, hala asana, serving asana, and matsya asana, etc., regularly at home.
Continuously monitor and maintain your weight. Regular workouts help burn calories, keep your body active, and maintain a regular temperature and body weight.
Avoid the intake of excessive tea, coffee, cold drinks, fast food, and deep-fried food.
For iodine in your diet, add fresh vegetables, peanuts, berries, oranges, mushrooms, eggs, flax seeds, avocado, walnuts, fish, and seaweed.
Try sesame seed oil or coconut oil for cooking.
Add black pepper and cumin seeds to your food regimen.
Take Kanchnara guggulu (a polyherbal formulation) two tablets twice a day with lukewarm water after food for one month. It will help maintain normal thyroid hormone levels. Do not swallow this tablet. First, chew it properly, and then take it with water.
Along with it, take a capsule of Ashwagandha (withanolides), one capsule two times a day with water after food for one month.
You can also go for panchakarma therapy, which is a cleansing process according to Ayurveda. It also has good results in thyroid dysfunction.
Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent.
Follow all these measures regularly, and you will soon feel better. After one month, consult me or a nearby Ayurveda physician for further management and improvement.
I hope this has helped you.
Please feel free to reach out to me again if you have further queries.
Thank you.
