Which Ayurvedic medicines can treat boils on the buttocks?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 32-year-old man, and I have been suffering from recurrent boils and folliculitis on and around my buttocks for the past two months. The condition comes and goes, sometimes lasting for three days and sometimes for seven days, but never longer than that. Recently, I had one on my hipline that lasted for around three weeks. Since then, I developed more on the other side, which also lasted for about two to three weeks. The size of the first boil was approximately 7 mm. Currently, there are two on the left side and one on the right.

Interestingly, one day I was unable to sit properly due to pain, but the next day the pain was gone. This pattern continued for several days, followed by relief for three to five days, and then the pain would return the very next day. The boils tend to occur in almost the same place each time. I occasionally experience smaller boils that disappear within three to five days and are not problematic. Additionally, I sit for extended periods all day long, and I have heard this could be a contributing factor. Is that true? I prefer not to take antibiotics. Can this condition be treated without them? How can I determine whether it is caused by bacteria or something else?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to the image (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity), there are small boils around the anal area, and recurrent formation and inflammation mostly occur in anal fistulas. However, a physical examination is needed to determine the exact diagnosis. Prolonged sitting, riding two-wheelers, and chronic constipation can be causes of anal fistulas. Inflammation and recurrent boils around the buttocks may also be due to an allergic condition. We need more details and pictures of the affected areas to provide a better diagnosis and treatment.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Actually, the issue is in the buttocks area, not the anal area. I am also unable to sit comfortably. I am unsure if there is pus. I suffer from constipation and often strain a lot. I lead a sedentary lifestyle and sit for prolonged periods, approximately eight to ten hours straight each day. As for the picture, I am unable to provide one because the area is in a very awkward position. All observations have been made through touch. What would you suggest as the next step? I also consulted another Ayurvedic practitioner who prescribed a blood purifier syrup and a remedy to remove excess pitta.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If it is not around the anal area, it might be a simple boil. Sometimes, this occurs due to continuous sitting in the same position. You need to improve your bowel clearance and incorporate walks into your sedentary routine. Consider placing something on your chair to facilitate air circulation and prevent excessive perspiration. Wear cotton undergarments and clothes, and keep the area neat and clean. I suggest taking the following Ayurvedic medicines:

  1. Kaishore guggulu (gokshuru, amruta, guduchi, and tryushana) two tablets.
  2. Panchatikta ghrita guggulu two tablets.
  3. Avipattikar churna (nimba, patola, and vyaghri), take these three twice a day with warm water after meals.
  4. Sarivadyasava (mustaka, haritaki, and padmaka), one tablespoon twice a day in equal amounts of water after meals.
  5. Jatyadi oil (sariva, tuthya, and sesame oil) for external application only.

Consult with your specialist doctor, discuss these recommendations with them, and take the medicines only with their consent.

Preventive measures include the following:

  1. Avoid spicy and junk foods.
  2. Drink plenty of water.
  3. Eat fibrous foods, fruits, and green leafy vegetables.
  4. Practice regular yoga, especially Kapalbhati, Mandukasana, and Ardha matsyendrasana, and engage in regular exercise. This helps improve metabolism.

Follow these recommendations and provide your valuable feedback in 10 days.

Thank you.
