How can hearing loss be treated through Ayurveda?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 32-year-old diagnosed with bilateral endolymphatic hydrops for the past five years, and it has caused me sensorineural hearing loss (moderate in my left and mild in my right ear) as well as tinnitus and daily head fullness. My hearing loss attacks were more severe in the first two years. It is more stable now, but I still have hearing fluctuations and hearing loss now and then. I never had vertigo, but sometimes imbalance would go away after a few days.

My main concern is the slow degradation of my hearing. If you can recommend a specialist, it would be very much appreciated. Currently, I am taking a course of corticosteroids every time I have hearing loss. I also take a tablet of Betahistine 32 mg thrice daily and a tablet of Amlodipine 5 mg once daily.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You can consult a specialist. I would like to suggest hearing aids are most commonly advised to give the maximum benefit. Along with that, you can take ayurvedic treatments. One capsule of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) twice a day with water for four weeks, and one capsule of ksheerabala (Bala kwath, Bala kalka, Godugdha) twice daily with water for four weeks.

However, please consult a physician, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent. Avoid popcorn, beans, cold drinks, and raw vegetables. Try all these regularly, and you will hopefully soon feel positive results.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.
