Can ayurvedic medicine help in curing diabetes after pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 41-year-old female, and I suffer from a lot of diseases. I gave birth five years ago, and at that time, the doctor told me that I had diabetes. My blood sugar level is high even after delivery, and I also have vitamin D deficiency. Currently, I take 80 units of Insulin daily, and I take approximately 16 to 18 tablets daily. Now, I started having pain in my foot, which is unbearable. I am frustrated with taking medicines. Can ayurvedic medicines relieve all my health issues?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query.

As you have multiple health issues, it will take some time to resolve. Some may be cured completely, like vitamin D deficiency and foot pain, but diabetes can only be controlled, and with the help of Ayurvedic medicine, you can prevent further side effects of diabetes on other organs as diabetes affects kidneys, heart, eyes, etc. About the foot pain, you did not mention the cause and the medicines that you are taking. The cause can be an injury, arthritis, pain due to deficiency of calcium and vitamin D, or due to weakness of nerves due to diabetes. The specific treatment requires the cause, so if you have performed any blood tests for arthritis let me know. If not, then do perform the tests. Till then, I suggest the following:

  1. Tablet Navaka Guggulu (Shuddha Guggulu, Kali Mirch, Sonth), one tablet twice a day with lukewarm water after food, two times a day for three weeks. Do not swallow this tablet, chew it and then take it.
  2. If your BP (blood pressure) is within normal limits, then try tablet Vishmushti Vati (Rasa sindura, Lauh bhasma, Jaiphala), one tablet twice a day with water after food for three weeks.
  3. Take Maha Vishgarbha oil (Murchita til taila, Ashudha shringk vish, Ashudha Kucha) and do a gentle massage with it for 15 minutes in the painful area, then cover it with a crepe bandage.
  4. Capsule Haridra (turmeric and curcuma longa), one capsule twice a day with water after food for four weeks. It is also helpful for diabetes.
  5. Tablet Asthiposhak (Kukkutandatvak Bhasma, Shodhit Laksha, Shodhit Guggulu), two tablets twice a day with water after food for four weeks. It will correct your calcium and vitamin D deficiency.
  6. Wear comfortable shoes. Avoid ill-fitted shoes. While sitting or standing for a long time, try to remove the shoes for some time.
  7. Take a round stick keep it under your feet and roll it for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat it two to three times a day. This exercise will help you in relieving pain.
  8. While sitting for a long time, try to keep something under your feet.
  9. At night, keep a pillow under your feet.
  10. Take two to three cloves of garlic every day.

Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and start taking the medicines after their consent. Try all these regularly, and you will soon see positive results. If still pain persists, then perform blood investigations for arthritis. Do consult me after three weeks with a complete medical history, current medications, and all blood tests. You can also consult a nearby Ayurveda physician if you want.

I hope you find my answer helpful.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My foot pain is due to a deficiency of vitamins and calcium.

Answered by Dr. Alka

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I just read your query and saw your reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

Your vitamin D is insufficient. Try taking the medicines which I suggested after consulting your specialist, for a month. Along with that, I suggest you try taking the following:

  1. Praval Pishti (Purified praval, Gulab jal), twice a day with water after food for four weeks. This medicine will help you with calcium and vitamin D deficiency and also improve your immunity.
  2. Spend 10 to 15 minutes in the sunlight daily, early in the morning. Avoid peak hours of sunlight.
  3. Do brisk walking, dancing, and yoga if possible. This will make your bones stronger.
  4. Improve your diet, as diet is equally important as medicine. Consume food rich in calcium and vitamins.
  5. Take milk, yogurt, fortified orange juice, green vegetables, soy products, spinach, broccoli, avocado, almonds, one teaspoon of sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, green beans, turnip, oatmeal, walnuts, peanuts, hazelnuts, and fatty fishes like salmon, if you eat fishes.

Try all these regularly, and you will feel positive results within a month. Do consult after one month or early if needed.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer.

Thank you.
