Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father has a 90 percent block in the main artery and a 40 percent block in the branch artery. The doctor has advised surgery. What to do?

Please help.

Hello doctor,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

If the blockage is around 90 percent in the main artery, then it is definitely leading to obstruction of blood flow. As a result, less blood will reach to heart muscles which will lead to breathlessness and pain in the chest. As your doctor said that blockage is due to calcium and the amount of calcium present in artery walls is directly proportional to plaque present and is called calcium score. The calcium score is a cause of coronary artery disease and may further lead to heart attack.

However whether to use a stent or do surgery is completely the cardiologist's call. But if it is a planned surgery and you have time and not an emergency, then you can take a second opinion from another nearby cardiologist too, and can discuss your case.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer.

Thanks and regards.
