How can an anorectal fistula be effectively managed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a fistula two years ago that healed without surgery. However, it has developed again, and there is pus discharge. I am currently taking Ayurvedic tablets.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

An anorectal fistula is an abnormal channel that forms from the anus or rectum, typically extending to the skin near the anus. A fistula may cause pain and discharge pus. Its direction can be determined by inserting a probe. Sometimes, it heals with proper medication and lifestyle changes. However, if the root (fibrosis tissues) remains inside the sinuses, it can recur due to changes in food habits and lifestyle. Ksharasutra ligation treatment is the best option for treating it.

Currently, you are taking good medicines for this concern. You can add Amrita bhallataka, one teaspoon twice a day after meals. However, the ultimate treatment is Ksharasutra ligation.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
