Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 19-year-old female. My prolactin level is 200 ng/mL, but no milk is discharged from my breast. I do not have any headaches or vision problems, only the absence of periods. There are no thyroid problems, but I have a lot of anxiety. My FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) is 4.39 mIU/mL, and my LH (luteinizing hormone) is 1.57 IU/L. I have primary amenorrhea. I need to consult an allopathic doctor to get pills.
Please suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
I have seen all your reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). As you have mentioned, primary amenorrhea, which is a matter of concern, is generally due to late puberty. Your prolactin level is high, and the brain's pituitary gland secretes the prolactin hormone. High prolactin levels also lead to disturbance in other hormones like estrogen and progesterone, which further leads to amenorrhea.
It is not necessary that you need to face other symptoms like discharge from the breast and vision problems. Sometimes, a tumor might be present in the pituitary gland, which causes high prolactin levels. But do not panic about the name of the tumor. These tumors can only be ruled out with the help of MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or other brain imaging studies.
In allopathic medicine, the doctor usually prescribes Bromocriptine or Cabergoline to treat high prolactin levels, and with time, when the prolactin level comes down to normal, the doctor tapers off the dose of medicine and small tumours also shrink with the use of the medicine. However, there are other medicines too to treat high prolactin levels, so whichever medicine is prescribed to you for high prolactin levels, take it properly. With time, your doctor will taper off the dose and eventually stop it.
Now, coming to the ayurvedic management of primary amenorrhea. You can take all these medicines with the other medicines you are taking. Take Kanchnaar guggul, two tablets twice daily with lukewarm water after meals for four weeks. Do not swallow these tablets. Firstly, chew them and then swallow with water. This is the correct way to take these tablets. This medicine will help you with any kind of tumor and primary amenorrhea.
Take Evecare syrup (Himalaya), 10 ml with water, twice daily for four weeks.
Take Chandraprabha vati one tablet twice daily with water for four weeks.
Take 15 ml of Aloe vera syrup with water for four weeks.
Do yoga, meditation, and walking daily, as all these will help with your anxiety.
If you are overweight, it will help control extra weight and maintain overall health.
Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.
Avoid excessive tea, coffee, cold drinks, spicy and junk foods.
Sleep adequately, at least for six to eight hours.
Do not take on too much stress, as it will also increase the problem.
But in the end, keep in mind primary amenorrhea is a matter of concern, so do not wait for too long. Usually, the menstrual cycle starts around 13 to 16 years of age. So if your gynecologist advised you to do any further investigation, then perform it and take medicine properly.
I hope this answers your query.
Let me know if I need to assist you further.
Thank you.
