Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 29 year old male. I weigh 90 kg and my height is 5'12". I actually started going to gym 3 months back and my trainer is asking me to start whey protein. I just bought one. Now my queries are:

  • Are they safe to consume?
  • Do they have any side effects?
  • I do workout not very intensely but yes to a level, so will this affect while I start drinking protein?
  • What is the best way to consume it?
  • What if after few months or years I stop going to gym and stop consuming whey immediately will it create any issue in future?
  • How much necessary it is to consume whey than the natural food?

Please note that I am a pure vegetarian.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • Till now there are no side effects encountered for whey protein. It is better to take with water on empty stomach, half an hour before food.
  • Whey protein will help to replace your body fat with muscle. You can gradually stop whey protein after few months. But it is always advisable to do regular exercise, at least brisk walking for 30 minutes daily, 5 times in a week to maintain healthy weight, prevent diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
  • I personally recommend you to stick on to physical exercise and diet to reduce your weight and build your body rather than taking any supplements.
  • Maintain 3 meals pattern per day. In that dinner must be the lightest, you can limit yourself with less food. You should finish your dinner 2 hours before going to bed.
  • Avoid repeated snacking and sleeping during day time.
  • Avoid curds and replace with butter milk.
  • To build your muscle include natural proteins like egg white (if at all you want to try), milk (2 glasses per day), sprouted grams, soya and nuts.
  • Do regular exercise without fail.
  • Drink sufficient luke warm water instead of normal water.
