Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 58-year-old married female. I have been experiencing a bad odor from my urine for the past three months, and now I smell it from my breath occasionally. My urine output has increased during the day, sometimes it only trickles out. I have not experienced any pain as of yet. Sometimes I think I smell it if I am sweating from an activity fully clothed and cannot figure out what has triggered it. I am not sexually active. I have not changed my diet. My weight is around 196 pounds, and my height is 5 feet and 5 inches. My only medication is Trintellix 10 mg. I have been taking turmeric curcumin for about six months in capsule form. I stay pretty healthy and active otherwise. Recently I went to a naturopathic person because I was out of town and had developed an upper respiratory infection with a hacking cough. She gave me a bottle of Ashwagandha drops and colloidal silver for ten days. Respiratory issues are gone, but the bad urine smell is still there.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I appreciate your seeking help. Well, what is your daily diet pattern like? The bad odor of urine and also that of breath may be owing to certain food that you have been consuming on a day-to-day basis. It may also be due to the use of turmeric supplements for a long. Ashwagandha herbal supplements can also have a disagreeable urine or sweat odor. Again, as I understand, the medication that you are currently on can lead to decreased sexual desire as one of its side effects. I suggest you check with your physician on this aspect once. At the same time, I suggest having a relative Mediterranean diet, having an active lifestyle as usual, and staying well hydrated. I also suggest you exercise (brisk pace walking being the safest) for 30 to 45 minutes at least five days a week. You can now stop taking curcumin or turmeric supplements should there be no definite requirement. Additionally, I would suggest a urine routine analysis test to rule out the possibility of urine infection, if any.

Hope this helps.

Do take care, and all the very best.
